Wild guess: Civil rights act? Floffe Send a noteboard - 16/10/2009 03:04:58 PM
Seriously though, the ACLU needs to put a sock in it. No one should be made to facilitate something he is opposed to because of his beliefs, no matter how ridiculous. This is America, and you have the right to both enter into an ill-advised, short-sighted marriage and to refuse to participate in one. This is WHY these things go before a judge, instead of having an automated program rubber-stamp it automatically. We can deplore his reasons, but it is good to see he is taking his responsibilities seriously. The ACLU claims he is breaking a law, but there is no citation of which law he IS breaking. Though I would not refuse to marry anyone on those grounds, It is in the rights of the judge to do so, and if it is not, perhaps some standards of responsible journalism need to be applied to the author of this piece, so he can inform his readers exactly what law requires a judge to decide a certain way.

You know, the law that prohibits discrimination based on "race"?
