Telephone call between a client and me:
Client: I need my food stamp identification number.
Ann: Hmmm...we don't use that term, so I'm not sure which number you need. Why do you need it?
C: I'm not sure. I don't have the paper with me. But I know I need my food stamp identification number.
A: That makes it difficult as there are several different identification numbers we use, but none are referred to as food stamp identification numbers.
C: Sh!t. I don't know. Can't you just tell me my food stamp identification number?
A: If you could tell me why you need it, I might know which number to give you.
*dead air for a few blinks*
Okay...let me look you up...can I have your social security number?
C: *gives SSN*
A: *looks up case* Um...you don't receive food stamps.
C: *huffy sigh* I know I don't receive food stamps. I just need my food stamp identification number!
A: Uh...*gives up*...let me just give you your record number.
