Are you from a culture in which it's standard practice to tip for services?
Yeah, US.

If so, for which services, and what's the standard where you live? What do you consider fair? Are there circumstances in which you wouldn't tip when you ordinarily would?
I give 15-20% at most restaurants, and I'll usually leave change at a fast food joint if there's a tip jar. I tip hair cutters as well ... always taught that that was normal. My roommate will tip the gas service men here in NJ (you can't pump your own) but I don't ...

Is it an expected thing for every visit or only at certain times of the year? When it comes to food and drink, is there a difference to you between restaurant and counter service?
Of course expected at sit down joints, I'm not so sure if barber shop workers expect it though.

Have you worked a job where tips are expected? Encouraged? Hoped for? Do you think this makes a difference in your perceptions to those of people who haven't? Do you remember how well (or whether) people tip and does this make a difference in how you treat them if they come back?
I worked in a Five Guys ... fast food burger joint with an open kitchen. We got 3-4$ a night on average, so it didn't add much to the paycheck. Every now and then we'd get lucky and get as much as 10$ a night. A Five Guys usually has too many customers to remember everyone who leaves a nice tip, but the regulars always got treated nicely regardless of whether they tipped.
