What I'm curious about ... Nate Send a noteboard - 13/01/2010 08:37:09 PM
... is what the whole thing means for future Hall of Fame voting. McGwire wasn't getting in even before he admitted to steroid use, just because of the strong suspicion, the all-but-fact knowledge. Will Barry Bonds be the same case? He was a great player even before he presumably started using steroids (though of course we can't say exactly when that was), it's possible he would have been Hall material even without the bloated home run totals, but it's still very likely that at some point he started "cheating". What about Alex Rodriguez? By the end of his career he might be putting up some incredible overall numbers, but we know that at at least one point he was enhancing his performance. What about some of the other home run hitters over the last 15 years? Do we suspect them of using PEDs even if there's no direct evidence? Is that fair? Should all of the players in that era who were primarily home run hitters, without much else to their game (no speed, no great fielding) be automatically rejected for the Hall?
