People are ignorant. When their laptop stops performing like they want it to (read: is filled up with random internet crapware), they think they need a new one, like they would with any other commodity. So they go into a big-box electronics retailer, and the salesmen tell them they need the latest and greatest. . .and they buy it.
I really think it's as simple as that for a majority of people.

An honest question- Why do people spend so much money on laptops?
