Right. Used to be far more musical-obsessed than currently, but here goes. Cockatiel of Doom Send a noteboard - 01/02/2010 01:35:55 AM
1. Do you like musicals? Why (not)?

I do. I mean, I did. But I do. I think I find them sillier than I used to, and it's been a while since I've seen a really really good one.

2. Do you like opera? Why (not)?

No. And I don't care if it doesn't make sense! </stubborn>
I love musicals. And I love "classical" music. So you'd think combining the two would make me happy. But no, I find it quite ridiculous actually. This made it very hard during my senior seminar when my professor kept assigning us operas to study. Especially as he'd give me a slightly apologetic look every time. Seriously. Stop assigning it when you know I can't stand it! Sorry. End rant.

3. What's your favorite musical?

Oh man. Most of 'em by Sondheim, I suppose. Even some of the ones I haven't seen but know most of the music from, if that makes sense (it does to me). I would really love to see City of Angels. Not remotely the same story as the movie. Excellent music. Very jazzy.

4. What elevates it above the rest?

Well, Sondheim's lyrics and music are nothing short of brilliant when he's on. He's got a few misses, too, but as a rule they're amazing. It's not always the same old story in his, either. I don't think there's another musical quite like Assassins...

I shall delete the next two questions. :|

BONUS POINTS: Do you or have you ever teared up while watching Les Misérables? If not, how does it feel to lack a soul?

Erm, can't remember if I teared up the first time. I remember being highly moved by some of the big powerful chorus harmonies. Still am, when I listen to it, actually.

I'm a sucker for the good harmonies.

As for the story? Eh. I liked the book, but the musical's strong point is definitely its music. :P Seriously, Eponine. He's not worth it.
