They just see it as the truth. Which isn't surprising since it was written to fit their world view.
I am not sure how much it hurt the tea party to have a few of their early members say they were going to tea bag Obama. It got them national attention and now it makes their critics look like giggling school boys because they can't leave the joke alone. Palin has the same affect, they simply can't resist following everything she says and bring her up in every discussion. They can't resist shooting down at the easy target. If the left wants to keep it majority past the next election it really needs to grow beyond such things and learn to deal with issues. Then I do think the left was happier in the minority and I think it better matches their leadership style.
Look at the health care debate. Republicans were out there saying what they liked and didn't like about it while democrats were arguing with Sarah Palin about death panels insulting and demeaning grassroots protest movements.

That's where she was when she was using Cuffs Notes, you may recall; the link said something along the lines of "these are Sarahs people!" and was highly praising of both them and her. If they don't want to be associated with her, maybe they shouldn't associate with her (just a thought.
)I don't recall many Republicans saying anything they liked about the House or Senate healthcare bills apart from the occasional nod to state insurance exchanges. Perhaps you can point out where Republicans reference something they like about the current bill in their unified calls to completely scrap it prior to "negotiations. " That's a FINE prescription for bipartisan compromise: "Throw out everything you want, then we'll talk. " The Yasser Arafat School of Diplomacy, I believe.
