Less responsibility would = a less stable job. If any monkey can do it they may figure out that they could get rid of him and get someone for less money. There is a lot to be said for the peace of mind that knowing you are needed brings. Also, if he has more responsibility that probably means that his day goes by faster.
I could get a job where I work that would pay more but I would be bored stiff doing it and I would not feel secure. Being hard to replace may be more advantageous in the long run.
I don't know what moondog's job is like or if any of that applies.
