RAMAC #24587 GAUGE: 12 BARREL: 14" - PARKERIZED CHOKE: MODIFIED SIGHTS: GHOST RING REAR WILSON COMBAT; FRONT - XS CONTOUR BEAD SIGHT STOCK: KNOXX REDUCE RECOIL ADJUSTABLE STOCK FORE-END: SPEEDFEED SPORT-SOLID - 14" LOP are designated as the only shotguns authorized for ED based on compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory, certified armor and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.
The required date of delivery is March 22, 2010.

Okay... I knew schools were getting hostile these days and a lot of us have joked teachers should go to school armed, but I'm curious why the DOE wants 27 shotguns.
Also, "based on compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory"? This would seem to imply they already own quite a few... why?
I'm only guessing, but I bet the individual departments of the government are probably responsible for providing their own security for their individual offices. And let's face it.. you can't enter a government office anymore without passing through a metal detector or through some kind of security checkpoint. Shotguns make security officers feel all warm and fuzzy. Besides, all that Homeland Security money has to be spent on something, or they won't give it to them next year.
Edit: I went online to the ED and found that they have their own criminal investigators, who carry firearms. Link below.
