They both gave unconditional surrenders the awesomeness of the US in how they treated them afterwards is worthy of discussion but not really the point
Palestine is like the Black Knight from the Holy Grail. They keep attacking and keep getting parts lopped off (though to be fair sometimes other Arab nations do the attacking for them). There have been several wars fought over this issue and Israel has won all of them.
