Seriously people, I've got a quick list of pokemon here for anyone who thinks the first generation was any better/more animalesque than the latter ones:
Geodude
Mr. Mime
Jynx
Porygon
Machop/Machoke/Machamp
Voltorb/Electrode
Magnemite
Weezing
The first generation had it's fair share of horrible designs and stupid ideas. The latter generations are no worse in that regard, in general. Generally anyone who says otherwise is going on nostalgia. Well, except for legendaries, which HAVE gotten more retarded with every iteration.
All that said though, these starters are particularly disappointing.
