Super late response time! Aemon Send a noteboard - 14/07/2010 08:37:50 PM
I only play casually and to unwind. To be honest, I don't want to have to work and crunch numbers just to make my spec work well. I like to be able to figure it out intuitively and not have too many "trash" talents that aren't really useful unless you have extra points to waste.

but what's the big deal about "dumbing" it down? it makes it more accessible to players who don't want to spend their time combing message boards seeking the optimal spec or using trial and error or math to figure it out.

Well, think of why talent trees exist. They exist to give people a choice in how their character plays. They make your warrior different from everyone else's. Forcing people to pick certain talents serves to negate the purpose of the talent system.

As far as making it more accessible, that's not necessary. Casual players do not NEED the optimum spec. It just won't make much of a difference to them. For the sake of argument, though, let's say you did dumb it down "to their level." Maybe instead of having individual talents, you just have three specifications. Hooray, now it's more accessible! But where does the dumbing down stop? Now these casual players have to comb the forums to figure out which specification is most effective for each situation. So you remove them, and just have classes. Now they have to comb the forums to figure out which class has the advantage, what's likely to happen in future balance changes, etc. So you combine everyone into a single class. Now they have to decide on gear. . .you get the idea.

I wouldn't use it if I got one. I have enough games that I don't want to test an incomplete one. - 07/07/2010 09:30:10 PM 443 Views
I agree - 07/07/2010 09:40:21 PM 417 Views
To be fair, at such a late beta stage, it's not "buggy." They're mainly tweaking balance issues. *NM* - 08/07/2010 02:37:40 AM 195 Views
Did you see they dumbed down talent trees to 31 points again? - 08/07/2010 02:37:18 PM 425 Views
Ha, no I didn't see that. I don't play anymore so I haven't kept up. That seems foolish, however. *NM* - 08/07/2010 04:32:47 PM 172 Views
meh. why? because it makes things "too easy"? - 08/07/2010 05:23:21 PM 461 Views
