I remember this game being mentioned on the board a few months back. However at the time, I was in the middle of some other gaming. Well I finally made my way over to this game...so here are my thoughts.
- The graphics are great. However I kinda expect this from a PS3 game. The sound effects are very good as well...also expected. I thought that the artist interpretation of the different circles of hell was very good. It helps when your source material is beautifully written.
- The game play is very reminicent of the God of War series...not that there is anything wrong with that. I enjoyed those game, and figure that I'll be getting the third game when it comes down off of its $60 high horse. I thought that the use of different magical spells and artifacts was nice. It allowed for a bit of customization. The two different skill trees was nice too (even if I did stick with one the first time, and am currently doing the other one now).
- The storyline was good. Dante was obviously dead from the get go, and this was more than just getting Beatrice out of hell. This was Dante's own redemption as well. The use of the Crusades was a nice touch to show that every person is fallable...including cleargy.
- In regards to the different monsters that were fought...loved them. There came a certain satisfaction in killing something that had goat horns. *laughs* As per the "unbaptised babies"...well I just absolved those ones right off the bat the first time through. But I must say that the female demon whores were brutal to fight.
- Ultimately, I found the graphic nature of the game itself...interesting. Most of you know me well enough to know that I hold to a particular belief system that is concervative in nature. However I found the use of violence, language, and nudity....refreshing? Sure, some of it was there just for the sake of being there, however much of it was done for artistic or storytelling purposes. I read an article not too long ago which stated that the average age of the video game player was somewhere in the late 20's/early 30's. As such, I found the use of more mature themes good, as it didn't water down the content to satisfy selling to 12 year olds. Other games have added content just to create a image or grab the fleeting attention of a horny young teen (Grand Theft Auto's different actions). In this case, it worked with the overall feel of the game.
So yeah...there ya go. If you're a grown-up who likes to play video games...I would put this game on your list. Especially if you just want a game which is fun to watch & play...not to make you think through every action you do. Sometimes I want to play a game where I plan and do research. Other times, I just want a game where I can kill something (preferably a goat horned demon). But beware, if you have little ones...play with wisdom. There is plenty that they don't need to see (as in a dead Cleopatra pulling forth demons from her nipples...female whore demons who bust out their vagina power...or Lucifer's gigantic uncircumcised cock and balls). And then of course, the constant weeping, nashing of teeth, and torment of those in hell can be somewhat un-nerving.
Next on my list of games to play:
-Starcraft 2
-Dead Red Redemption
-or maybe something on the wii....(sugestions welcome)

*shrug* I was happy enough with it. My version of the game had the complete Inferno on it too. *NM*

They raped a classic. It really is distressingly bad. *NM*
