Nvidia has done a redone version of their Geforce website. One of the new features is the "optimize" section. In this section you can choose your video card from this list.

And they will show you the recommended in game settings for your card and various monitor resolutions, as well as the average fps you would obtain. For processors they use an i7 940 with 3gb of memory
Note though they use an core 2 duo e6700 with the 9800gt since when the 9800gt was the flag ship it was before the i7 generation so they are also showing what a complete new system build would do.
