When the Emperor tells you to attack Vader, you have the option of obeying or turning on the Emperor to save your fallen Jedi buddy.
I think Vader is off to the right and down a platform and the Emperor is straight ahead in the background.
Both endings are pretty cool, so it's worth going back and loading your last save to see what happens in the other ending.
