I mostly got it to have something to do when riding back from St. Paul with my folks. The possibility of Mario Karting with my buddy is kind of exciting, but I don't see this being a really fulfilling machine on a lot of levels. But whatever. 'Twas pretty cheap. I'm in the same boat, of having grown up on old school nintendo, so it's pretty cool to see some of those games being reissued, Chronotrigger for example.

Didn't know about the CycloDS card. Sounds interesting.
