Open world games require a bit of mental roleplaying, IMO. (whether it's Fallout, Oblivion or Minecraft) Otherwise, their story offerings are never as well-packaged or compelling as more linear RPG titles.
It was one of those information overload games. There's so much that it becomes daunting to think about. I managed to get through Oblivion because it was fantasy with magic and swords.
