I've convinced myself to finally play Arkham Asylum... after owning it for over a year.

There have been at least two instances of me starting the game, playing for an hour or so to where it first opens up the in-game world to some degree of free roaming, and then... nothing. I got distracted. Or busy. Or something, I don't know.
So, with seeing Arkham City on my brother-in-law-to-be's PS3 last night, I decided that the first game is probably worthy of all the praise it's garnered and that I really ought to play my copy. Thankfully, it's not really wasted money, since I had picked it up on Steam for about $7. <3 Steam.
Anyway - advice on the game? Tips? Things to avoid or try not to be bothered by? I realize it's not high prose and its sequel has already released, but please -- try not to spoil anything I might not see coming.

The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.

Use stealth. Guns are very dangerous. Learn how to use the counter system.
