I think you chose well. - Edit 1

My mistake, then. Some folks put A LOT of evidence on reviews.
Skyrim will provide you amazing bang-for-buck and the convenience of being able to play/progress at your leisure. That's something I've always loved about TES games. Your world is YOUR world, my world is MY world. No guild/raid scheduling obligations, trade spammers or subscription fees... Plus, we get to mod it however we want! (and then those other people can continue making their creepy nude mods)
I guess it just doesn't make sense in my head to buy a game I don't have time to play yet. It's not even a money thing. Just time. I don't have kids, but have the same leadership/volunteering stuff and am planning my wedding for April. Plus, I'm sure we've both got our mutual holiday obligations.
Throw in the busiest travel month I've had in ages and Skyrim just wouldn't be doing much more than collecting virtual bits of dust on my Steam account.
We'll all be enjoying it sooner or later, and I didn't mean to imply that you were some listless frat boy. (we all know they're playing MW3 instead anyway - hah) Enjoy the snowy weather! I'll be there soon.
