I know that there are some games on the Amazon app store, but if you really want to get access to the full spectrum of games out there, you will have to root the thing.
Rooted, you can load the Android Market and play pretty much anything on there. Of course, rooting will kill your ability to use the Amazon Prime stuff, like free streaming video and such. Not to mention voiding your warranty and pretty much any chance of getting support from Amazon.
