*shrug* I guess part of my thing is... LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 24/01/2012 04:12:53 AM
You can "nerf" a class without destroying what makes it great. To me, it didn't really matter how much damage i could deal out. My brother's weren't wise players and I liked the ability to play how I wanted to play (as a big ol bear :P) and still turn around and save their asses with some heals when they got into trouble.

Though I guess they could have turned it into a Bard-like class.

I don't play to min/max. I don't play to be overpowered or to demolish the enemy. I play to act out a story. And the way the moved the druid class moved it away from how druids fit into my stories. One of my first "encounters" with the Forgotten Realms druids was the druids in the first book of the Cleric Quintet by R.A. Salvatore (fuck drizzt, those were hands down his best Forgotten Realms books), and another early Forgotten Realms druid was Arundel from Icewind Dale. One of my other earliest encounters were the druids from the Gord the Rogue books by Gary Gygax himself.

Those druids were neutral mediators of the natural world. Yes, they did a lot and when they were Epic ArchDruids who were nigh undefeatable (you know, like there is for every class). But you know what? Arundel is nearly killed in his own druid house. The druids in the Cleric Quintet are consumed by their own simple desires to be close to nature. They're just as fallible as anyone else.

So I guess it just frustrates me that my stories are getting stepped on because people feel the need to "nerf". Dude, let the DMs do that. It's not like it's a computer game where your mechanics are set in stone. I shouldn't have to convince my DM to let me add heal spells onto a GODDAMNED DRUID.
Still Empress of the Poofy Purple Pillow Pile Palace!!

They made the druid less versatile than it was in 3.5? - 22/01/2012 06:18:39 AM 543 Views
imo, the best part about the class was that it could fill almost any role. - 23/01/2012 02:47:59 AM 772 Views
CoDzilla stands for Cleric or Druid + Godzilla - 23/01/2012 09:54:12 AM 692 Views
there are other ways they could have fixed it beyond limiting the ability to fill multiple roles. - 23/01/2012 01:36:03 PM 698 Views
