And I do remember 1 had a lot of wide open spaces between cities, but it just all felt so... flat, and barren. The wilderness in 3 actually feels reasonably alive and interesting, at least to me. Though that could just be due to the prettier graphics making things look more appealing, sort of like Skyrim.
