If there's only 4, the wizard can't afford to just leave it there.

Is the party bringing the stone with them? Have it be stolen in the middle of the night. They can either fight off the theives, and then have map or a note or something point the way to the Evil Wizard...

...or the stone could get stolen, and they could Track the thieves back to the castle.


I like the idea of an intelligent, snarky, Improved Familiar leading a group of thugs.
