I wasn't able to play it very much before work, but I was surprised how... low-quality the graphics seemed. The faces were okay, similar to Oblivion, but the running animation was more like gliding over the ground, and the general quality of the graphics - especially in the introductory cutscene - seemed really low-quality for an XBox 360 game. I was expecting something on the level of Mass Effect, but it looked more like the first KOTOR game.
This is a PC game which had console versions thrown together at the last moment, rather than vice-versa as is usually the case ("Hello, GTA4!"
. They simply didn't have enough time to downgrade the graphics and then optimise them to look really good on 360, and had to settle for simply lowering overall graphical quality right across the board to fit the game onto a DVD.The PS3 version reportedly looks somewhat better due to the Blu-Ray capabilities, but to see and play this game as it was meant to be played, you need to play it on PC.
In addition to this, the console versions are missing the tactical top-down, Baldur's Gate-style isometric viewpoint, which to me would be a total deal-killer. The game was apparently designed to be played from that perspective and the over-the-shoulder camera on the consoles just looks limiting.
