It's bugged to hell and back. Werthead Send a noteboard - 20/11/2009 12:51:40 AM
I was thinking about buying it or asking for it for xmas, so if it's not that great I might abstain. I haven't really heard anything about it at this point since I just discovered the games a short time ago.

The game is riven with bugs, incompatibilities with certain common software/hardware cominations and is very memory-intensive. It also uses Steam for authentication, which I don't have a problem with but a lot of people dislike (especially as you have to have Steam running in the background, which takes up more memory).

Some of these problems have been eased with patches, but a lot of fans are still having problems and can't play the game properly. They were waiting for the big expansion, which is usually when the bugs get fixed (KINGDOMS fixed most of the major bugs in MEDIEVAL II and BARBARIAN INVASION did the same for ROME, for example), but then went apopleptic when the Creative Assembly revealed that there wouldn't be a big new expansion for the game, only a crappy little download thing (WARPATH) which didn't go down too well.

Now CA seem to have switched their focus and energy to the new game, NAPOLEON: TOTAL WAR, and left EMPIRE in its buggy and crappy state, although apparently another patch should be coming early next year.

Rome is good, although a little weird historically speaking. - 14/11/2009 01:58:18 AM 494 Views
The factions are there to make civil war possible when you try to get crowned Imperator. *NM* - 14/11/2009 08:20:54 AM 251 Views
I know why they did it. It's also a complete fabrication. - 14/11/2009 08:59:53 PM 464 Views
That may be so, but not many people know that much about history, --> customers don't care. *NM* - 15/11/2009 09:35:51 AM 248 Views
Which is why I suggested the free Europa Barbarorum mod. *NM* - 16/11/2009 01:22:54 AM 263 Views
