Cool stuff. I'm in. *NM* Kronin al'Sulc Send a noteboard - 21/09/2010 09:01:56 PM
As some may or may not know, I've been screwing around with alternative games we might play, trying to find ones that seem like they'd work for our forum. Anyway, this is the first attempt, borrowed from Mafiascum's The Whole Sort of General Mish Mash Forum, its a quickie, game rounds for this trial will go for 48 hours each, and the number of rounds should be one less than the number of players who sign on, very small time commitment. This seemed an appropriate choice for a first attempt since it's very easy and requires little involvement thus won't step on any other games going on currently.

Rules

  • You start off with 1000 coins

  • Every round you NB me how many you want to spend

  • If you submit the lowest, you're out

  • If you submit the second lowest, you get all coins you spent back that round

  • If you fail to submit coins, you will receive a strike and a random submission. If you fail to submit again, you will be eliminated.

  • If a tie occurs for lowest, both are eliminated, if tied for second, both get refunded, otherwise ties don't matter

  • Last man standing wins!

  • So here's how this will work, for the trial, we'll do registration for a couple days. Then Play begins, everyone NBs me their value, and when everyone submits or 48 hours pass, the round ends, and I post what everyone bid, what their new totals are, and who got eliminated. Those who don't submit will automatically bid a random number 1-1000, or 1 to their remaining total on subsequent days. I'll probably use invisible castle for generating that value if someone skips.

Example of play - John, Bob, Larry, Susan, Jessie

    Round 1

Players have 1000 coins, and NB their bid.

    John - 17

    Bob - 154

    Larry - 209

    Susan - 101

    Jessie - 235

John bid lowest, and is eliminated. Susan bid second lowest and gets to keep her coins

    John

    Bob - 846

    Larry - 791

    Susan - 1000

    Jessie - 765

Round 2 starts, players send in bids

    Bob - 300

    Larry - 201

    Susan - 99

    Jessie - 205

This time, Susan risked too low a bid, and gets eliminated, and Larry comes in second, and keeps his cash

    Round 2 tallies

    John

    Bob - 546

    Larry - 791

    Susan

    Jessie - 560

    Round 3

Going into this one, Larry knows he can get away with spending more than Bob or Jessie, so he wagers pretty high

    Bob - 335

    Larry - 400

    Jessie - 364

    So Bob is out

    Bob

    Larry - 291

    Jessie - 560

On Round 4, Jessie knows she can bid any number higher than 291 and win, so the game ends, Jessie is the winner.

Basic strategy then is if you spend to little your out, but you want to spend as little as possible so you have it to bid on later days and if you hit second place you gain the advantage of keeping your money. Not a deep strategy or heavy posting game, but it goes quick, and might work well as a companion to our other games, since you could probably knock out a 5-7 players game during registration phase for a mafia game or a night phase, etc. Very little posting involved, pretty straightforward, minimal time commitment for all involved.

Okay, who wants to give this a try?

    Players

    Hobo

    Fox and Ravens
