The Coin Game, Set VII - Edit 2

Before modification by Isaac at 13/03/2012 08:45:06 PM

Well we haven't done this in a while and it seemed a good time to resurrect it. Registration for the next 48 hours, feel free to send in your initial bid, you can always revise it if a bunch of people join in. Initial bids due Friday 9 PM EST, we'll be doing 24 hours to keep things going fast, bids due in by 9 PM EST each day, random bids for people who miss a day will be performed using Invisible Castle, but to keep things reasonably salvageable since we'll be going fast, automatic bids will be the sum of a random number between 1 and the lowest bid plus a number between 1 and the highest bid.

For those who haven't played before or are rusty, here's a link to the original Game 1 with it's example, and Game 2. The game is pretty straightforward, you begin with 1000 coins, each round (day) you bid some of them via secret Noteboard bid to myself. The person who bids the lowest is eliminated from play, the person who bids the second lowest gets their bid refunded to them, the winner is whoever has the most coins at the end.

We won't be using any refinements to the game since no one has played in a while, just that random bid method for when someone doesn't get a bid in on time. A quick example of that:

On day 3 Jon forgets to bid on time, and has his random bid done at invisible castle. The lowest bid, Jane's a 107, and the highest bid, Tim's a 220, are used essentially as a 107-sided die and a 220-sided die. Their sum will be Jon's bid.

The roll of Jane's produce a number between 1 and 107, in this case 45, and the roll from Tim's a number between 1 and 220, in this case 104. So Jon's random bid is 45+104, or 149, he remains in play. You may also inform me of a preferred default bid in absentia, say 200, if you prefer not take your chances with Invisible Castle if you miss a day.

Note: All bids must be real whole numbers... no fractions, negatives, or imaginary numbers. No variables, no Pi, just 1, 2, 3... 999. I think my evenings are mostly free for the nest week or so, and the game should only last around then, so results and tallies will probably appear about 9-10 PM each day, in event of delay on my part getting those up the deadline will just push back to the next day.

If you have any questions, ask, and reply in to register.
