Okay, I think we have some who haven't done this before with us and it never hurts to go over it again. What you'll do is to take your character name and encode it, then submit the cipher-text as a rpely to this message. You may use whatever method you wish, but be warned that screwing up your own cipher tends to amount to a death sentence. We usually advise players to use Sharky's Vigenere Cipher.

To use that, you put in your name in the 'input' box, enter a key in the 'key' box, and hit the encode button. Text will appear in the Output box, copy and paste that into a reply post here. You are strongly advised to use a key that is easy to remember, I often NB mine to the mod for easy recovery and in case I have to run off and a substitute player is needed. Pick something coherent, Vigenere is very hard to crack and no one is likely to bother, so "I like Phantom of the Opera" is a better key then '7986543' or something. Non-coherent keys make a ciphered code questionable to others as valid, because you could theoretically take random output text and find a key that transfered it to say whatever you wanted. Remember that a key is whatever you want it to be, but with Vigenere it is actually best to use a key longer than your encoded phrase, a famous quote or a string of song lyrics for instance.

Last note, you don't want to encode "John Smith", you should encode as "xxxjohnxxxsmithxxx" or similar because with limited characters in the play an encode of "John Smith" will come out as "IhtuKlidu" and isn't too hard to guess letter count against known characters.
