Let's ponder these names for a bit Isaac Send a noteboard - 25/08/2013 12:07:50 AM

I caught a whiff of what FT was thinking with the names but admit I took it a bit differently, probably because I had only 5 to work with when he said it and he had only 5 himself but one different. I had Grayson, he had Chandler. Keep that in mind as I mention to patterns below I've caught.

George Brown...............beetnemesis
Julia Azzopardi..............Artsapat
John Baker................Taiga
Nico Langella..............Praziquantel
Warren Grayson..............Isaac
Tom Chandler..............Fanatic-Templar

Derek Hansen..............Hobo
Irina Sokolov..............Yunalesca
Michael Cook..............ranagrande
Lavender Biggs..............Sacrilicious Toast
Frank Hodges..............Dannymac
Roger Green...............Fox and Ravens

Color: Brown, Grayson, Lavender, Green
Job: Baker, Chandler, Cook

Other names sound from areas, our two dead scum sound Italian for instance, they all have meanings too, Hodges amusingly means "Son of Roger", but it would be a stretch to assume Dannymac is Fox's son. Hansen... is not German FT, it is Scandnavian, Derek is but Hansen is the equivalent of Johnson or Smith in Denmark. Let's keep in mind our mod is Scandnavian too, specifically from Finland which borders and swaps with Russia where Sokolov is also a top 10 last name. So while Yuna as Russian mafia is reasonable (I don't think Scandinavian-German Mafia is) it is a bit of stretch to assume it I think, in this case.

I come from one of those areas that was dumping ground for a lot of Germanic, Scandnavian, Irish, Italian, and Polish immigrants so only Sokolov even stood out to me as a name I don't routinely personally run into but that doesn't mean Lassi doesn't. Anyway the name game is useful, I think, but only to a point.

Also, frame of mind, probable RM something like "Yunalesca, you are Irina Sokolov, member of the dreaded Russian Mafia, you..." it is kind of hard for me to think she'd miss that whole "I have a Russian name and am Russia Mafia" signal flare, not impossible, but she's a vet player and while we all miss obvious things that's an even bigger stretch after the two dead Italian name Mobsters and FT asking about names. Lot of signal flares, but not so if she just assumes her name is random out of a hat, which wouldn't be the case if she was explicitly Russian Mafia.

Here's what we know, mafia is usually associated to Italians, both our dead bad guys were Italian, and while they could have been the Italian Mafia wiped out by the Russian Mafia or something they could be from different teams of warring Italian Mafia too.

Now, here's the thing. we've got names and if Yuna=russian mob is right we can expect the other was russian mafia too. Such being the case we probably ought to be looking for who has a fake name because none of the others are Russian. That's a short list, FT and I and the dead can be discarded right away, FT brought the subject and Yuna up and Yuna wouldn't have picked her 'real name' if mine was Russian and I changed mine and we was scum buddies. If we were Russian-mob scumpals I'd ask and know her name, noticed we were both russian named and russian mafia, and advised a switch. Sucking my scum allies dry for info is Step 1 on Night 1 as everyone who has been a darksider with me knows.

So that would leave possible allies as:
Derek Hansen..............Hobo
Irina Sokolov..............Yunalesca
Michael Cook..............ranagrande
Lavender Biggs..............Sacrilicious Toast
Frank Hodges..............Dannymac
Roger Green...............Fox and Ravens

Those are all normal names and non-russian. Hobo can probably be tossed, if he had a fake name, and posted before Yuna, it would be very unlikely she wouldn't. Hobo though quiet is actually tied with me for chronologically longest player, dates back to game 1 and I've scummed with him before, he's pretty methodical too. I can't rule out him missing the name change at night then seeing the oh-so Italian names and and FT's calls for names and cathcing it, but Lucy still missing it, but I really think not. I also have a problem with Yuna, who joined us way back in game 6 and has scummed a lot too, missing the name thing but brand new players ST or Danny catching it. It's not impossible, we all get distracted and skill at this game translates well from general life, but all in all Micheal Cook and Roger Green, rana and fox, strike me as the most likely faked. They're both vet players and the both have names that fit my two patterns above as the last entry

Color: Brown, Grayson, Lavender, Green
Job: Baker, Chandler, Cook

If you're making up a fake name to avoid a pattern the scum have, might as well fake one other presumable townies have. It is very easy for me to imagine rana saying "FT wants names, can't go with Mikhail Ivanov... dead townie is John Baker, FT is Tom Chandler, I'll be Michael Cook" or Fox, "George Brown, Warren Grayson, Lavender Biggs... Roger Green"

So if Yuna is scum I'd gamble on her ally being Fox or Rana. Again though Russian Mafia is a big leap, Italian and Mafia isn't but there's a small hoard of alternate mafia groups, Russian Mafia, Amish Mafia, Colombian Drug Lords, the Yakuza, Cuban Mob, Crips/Bloods, Mexican Arms/drugs/human traffickers have a few, and those are just the common popular names that float around TV/movies. We also want to keep in mind it might not be a turf war, dead scummers does not another scum faction make, crazy cult, SK, vigs, PGO, etc are all plausible options and a second mafia scum faction doesn't mean mafia either, our second evil faction could be crazed rednecks a la Deliverance.

One last note, we've commented on evidence on the bodies, Artsapat had drugs on him and it was suggested he was framed - which I doubt but wouldn't that screw up our thinking if true - or that it is the evidence of his evil-ness. More likely though, I think, that was his mode of killing or night acting, a drug over-dose (kill or incapacitate for the night), himself a framer role who plants drugs, etc. I think these 'clues' tell us about their role power to replace it simply being specifically said.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
