Lord Aemin commanded the King's guard in Amadicia. With his smooth, handsome face and energetic deportment, he seemed quite young for such a responsibility, but he was loyal to the King, and he'd actually fought alongside the King's men in the Troubles, and that was more than most of the nobility could offer. The fact that the sword at his hip was marked with the blademaster's herons did not hurt, either.
And now, having received Tian Sevran's report on the circumstances in Sarel, he was not at all pleased.
"Are you taken by the Dragon, Sevran? Did anything pass through that thick head of yours when you decided to declare war on the Whitecloaks in the middle of a packed inn in Amadicia itself? As far as you are concerned, you should be thanking the Light that your squad was assassinated that night, or you'd be in the Questioners' hands right now. The Whitecloaks suspect you might be dead along with the rest of your squad, and I have not disabused them of this notion. Yet. Even so, Pedron Niall has seized upon the opportunity to accuse the King's guard of having Darkfriends hiding within its ranks. I do not know how many good men will be taken by the Questioners to pay with their lives for your folly."
While Tian was getting chewed out by his superior, the rest of his Darkfriend circle were lodging at the Guardian Light, an inn near the city's south gate, waiting for their next orders.
"The Questioners have taken in the Glowing Embers' cook and the local hedge doctor for questioning, but they will likely be released. The culprits in this affair seem quite clear. An axe-wielding man dressed as a Tinker tried to finish off those who hadn't been poisoned. He was accompanied by a Gleeman, a fairly young individual from the eastern countries by his accent. And some Illianer girl tried to make off with the apparently poisoned wine, it's unsure whether she was trying to help or hinder the Darkfriends, but she is being searched for as well. The Light burn me if I know what possessed the Shadow to put up such a blatant showing now, though. I suppose it must have something to do with that man who proclaimed himself the Dragon Reborn in the west. As for you, I'd think you would do well not to come back to life anytime soon, yes?
It would be best if you were to vanish for a few months, even a year before enlisting again under a different name, I think. What do you have to say about this?"
