The ending reminded me the most of Lord of the Rings, with the ring bearers being allowed passage to the Grey Havens as a payment of peace for what they did and sacrificed.


It also reminded me of the ending of the Twin Peaks movie (the movie's end can be seen as a sequel to the ending of the Twin Peaks series) in the Black Lodge (basically Hell/Purgatory) before apparently entering the White Lodge (basically Heaven).

It's a happy ending in the afterlife, which also has the light, the christian references, tears, laughing, even a kind of spiritual guide in a suit (Agent Copper similar to Christian Shephard).
