Peter Parker is a painfully middle-class, nerdy, very white high school kid (and later reporter etc), to me it's a fundamental part of his identity.
Now Daredevil for example I wouldn't blink at, as for me his defining charactersitic is his blindness.

...because why can't there be black nerdy high school kids?
Unlike the example mentioned with Othello, where Othello's race (Moor) was a big factor in the plot line, I don't really know why it would make a huge difference (or even any) for the Spiderman series.
Lately, Glover's character on Community is pretty much a huge black nerd, although he initially started off as the stereotypical black jock.
How would you feel about a black Peter Parker?

I have more of a problem with the fact that they're remaking these movies this soon. *NM*

About the same way I'd feel about a black bond - it's ridiculous.

I don't really care about the race of Spider Man. But why reboot the franchise so soon?
