CAST: Leonardo DiCaprio - Teddy Daniels
Mark Ruffalo - Chuck Aule
Ben Kingsley - Dr. Cawley
PLOT: Drama set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.
After reading the reviews on IMDB, (not all of them of course), I realize that only the gullible will enjoy this. I won't explain what I mean by that, suffice it to say, that as Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio), with his partner Chuck (Ruffalo), explore Shutter Island looking for the missing murderess, they get a sense that not everything is quite right with the hospital for the criminally insane, and try to uncover a deeper mystery.
If you're gullible like me, you'll enjoy this movie a ton! IMDB reviewers are apparently less gullible than me, they already knew the ending before the first hour of the movie was up, I took the movie hook, line and sinker, and I ended up liking it a lot.
Ended up liking it, notice, for most of the movie I was actually entranced in what rating to give what was quickly becoming a mess, fortunately the *very* strong ending cleared it all up for me.
The acting was high quality, DiCaprio's 'Boston' accent did get annoying at times though. I found the weakest part of the movie actually involved the 'Hurricane', what the hell kind of Hurricane was that ... and in Boston Harbor? I mean, I lived through Hurricane Bob, it tore my Dad's fence out of the ground and messed up some trees sure, but the movie depicts trees flying sideways almost like they're in a tornado.
The music, also, was a bit too much, and various scenes were just too heavy on whatever it was they were on. The heavy-hand that affects most of this movie I would say is the biggest weakness of this movie.
Anyway,
8 out of 10 for the gullible
