I have not seen the Swedish original yet but they sure as hell didn't waste time remaking it for the US market. Without knowing the original, I still hope they'll stay true to it and not make horrid changes to get the Twilight crowd. The trailer is really well done though, plus the film stars the fantastic Chloe Moretz ("Kick-Ass" ), so we'll see...
If a movie is good enough, Americans will watch it even in a foreign language. And if it isn't good enough (haven't seen it either, although I recall reading a review that was rather positive), I'm somehow not really convinced that Hollywood will do a better job.
