After the sub-par "Aliens vs. Predators" films, this is a return to form, keeping the spirit of the original action-sci-fi-film from 1987. There are plenty of references to the Schwarzenegger movie (especially within the excellent soundtrack) and the atmosphere is really similar. Of course the plot follows the usual "who will die first and how exactly?" formula and the dialogs mostly come from the quarry of action film one-liners, but there are still plenty of surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat. The action is well timed and the effects work mostly without CGI, adding to the feel of the original. Overall, the film delivers all it sets out to do, no more and no less. Fans of the original should be pleased.
7 out of 10 scalpels.

MAJOR SPOILER:

As far as the actions of the doctor character in the group go, no one should be the least surprised by his final actions.

Me and my gf got arguing about his role afterwards. She assumed he worked with the Predators, was put among the group of humans to add more confusion and mistrust, probably for several seasons already. I did not see any hint for that, I simply thought he was a psycho killer they picked to be one of the victim's, like the convict.

Finally, as the screen goes black, I think it was a nice touch to have the "Long Tall Sally loves Uncle John" song playing over the end credits. (I'm not sure of the title, but anyone who's seen the original Predator movie knows the song I'm talking about.)

Yeah I didn't get that right away. I thought it felt horribly out of place to have a rock'n roll song over the end credits, but I guess it works as a reference to the first. The rest of the soundtrack did, and that was great.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.
