Simon Woods - Edward Vanderman

PLOT: A modern romantic tale about a young aristocratic heiress born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love with "one who will love her faithfully."

In this Christina Ricci starred and narrated film, we meet a girl whose lived under a form of house arrest for her entire life. The cause of this house arrest is a curse that has caused her to be born with the snout of a pig. Supposedly, only 'one who will lover her faithfully' can break the curse.

Her mother's reaction, (played by the venerable O'Hara of Home Alone fame), is to lock her in their sizable mansion until she's old enough to marry, and then bring suitors around to meet her. Her mother believes that only a 'blueblood' suitor can break the curse, a rich man in other words, but each man she brings to call upon her daughter, runs out of the house at the sight of her hideous snout, after signing a release statement stating they won't state the state of her nose to the state. (I had too).

One of the suitors, Edward Vanderman, escapes without signing the statement, and runs his story across the local newspaper. The editors think he's crazy, but one reporter, Lemon, overhears. Lemon has been on the case of Penelope and her snout since she was born, but gave up after Jessica Wilhern faked her daughter's death when she was still an infant. Together, Lemon and Edward pay 'Max' to take a picture of Penelope with a hidden camera while visiting her ...

This movie was an enjoyable fairy-tale of a movie. Quite charming even, though corny as a cob. It's a predictable rom-com, the ending will either make you gag or just give you bubbly feelings of happiness. I can't find any egregious flaws in this movie, it is what it is. The question is, do you like movies where Christina Ricci does the narrating and acting the whole time.

I wouldn't call this a must see by any stretch, but perhaps an enjoyable 'rainy-day' movie. Have a bit of fun with it.

7.5 out of 10
