Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead are all good with Dawn being the best of them. Just make sure you are watching the originals and not any of the remakes which feature running zombies.
If you haven't seen it then you should also watch Shaun of the Dead which while being a comedy is still a fine zombie movie.
There is a TV mini-series called Dead Set which is pretty good even if it does feature running zombies.
Also there is a comic series called The Walking Dead which is absolutely excellent and can be bought in trade paperback format. They are currently adapting it as a TV series.
