Burke and Hare Foxhead Send a noteboard - 04/11/2010 10:04:20 AM
A comedy based on the true story of the West Port murders in Scotland in the early 19th Century. Burke and Hare are a pair of down and out friends who seize upon a business opportunity to sell cadavers to a leading anatomy surgeon. After stumbling upon a dead body they realise that mostly people just don't die often enough and take matters into their own hands to make even more money...to of course hilarious consequences.

This film started quite slowly for me and i wondered if i was going to end up disappointed, Pegg seemed to struggle against Serkis presence and the laughs were few. I did though smile solidly throughout this film and when it got going (about 30 minutes in) i was laughing out loud, though not as loud as the laughers in the row behind. Can people not contain themselves and be happy with a 'hahahaha' instead of 'HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA'?

It's mostly physical comedy gags, but there's also a bit clever dialogue in there too which i appreciated.

Hangman: It's easy to sympathise with them, but in the end they killed people for money and that's just evil. (man hands him a purse of money)

And the cameos! if you watch much british television you'll have a whale a time spotting people, the highlight as always being Stephen Merchant's boggly eyes.

Also kudos to the costume department. Isla Fisher's breasts looked magnificent. Jessica Hyne's breasts looked magnificent. Honestly ladies if you want to make the most of your assets go for a Georgian dress...magnificent!

Notable trailers: Machette. Directed by the guy who did Sin City and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. It looks like a pumping action huge guns and quips film with a fairly stella cast, certainly one i'll be going to watch upon release

The Warrior's Way. Cowboys and Ninja fight it over a heavy rock tune...need i say more?

Skyline: Scifi film about aliens coming to Earth and not being very nice. Although the effects look amazing i have the feeling that this is going to be all style and no substance.
