His actions do kick off the action, after all, and his presence is felt (particularly on Cat, Jon and Robb) long after he exits stage left. Cheesy, but you could argue it that way.

And yeah, more people will watch the first episode of THRONES in the USA alone than have read the entire series to date worldwide (unless HBO screw the marketing). Spoiler avoidance is going to be a priority.
