It came with this game called Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Four years, and I hadn't even opened the case, let alone played the game.

Now, recently (according to wikipedia, it's been in development for two years) I've heard about work being done on an Uncharted film based on the game. Mostly casting buzz, with one article about the script. I hate to use the same analogy, but IGN is right when they said it sounds like it's going to be less Indiana Jones, and more National Treasure.

But the bigger thing for me, as I sit here in bed after my insomnia has awakened me after less than four hours of sleep, is the casting of the main character, Nathan Drake. Nothing against Mark Wahlberg, he's a pretty damn good actor (Estella Warren's bosom wasn't the only thing that made that film enjoyable for sixteen year old Brad), but I don't think this role is right for him. Especially next to Nathan Fillion. I don't know if admins can put in images for a real side-by-side, but until then or if not, you have to settle for more links:

Wahlberg, Drake, Fillion

After playing the game, however, I've realized that Nathan Fillion's physical similarity to Drake isn't the only reason he should have gotten the part. Drake's sense of humour is very similar to that of a number of characters I've seen Fillion play. I kind of get the feeling that, because he plays those characters so well, perhaps his personality is similar to those characters. Including Drake. Wahlberg, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. Actually, unless I'm mistaken, I haven't really seen much of a sense of humour in many of the characters he's played. Nor a personality in any way similar to Drake.

I guess there's really no point in complaining. It sounds like the film is being delayed for another year, and a lot can change in a year. Though not likely the lead role, nor the family film direction (we may just end up with yet another subpar game-to-film adaptation). But! There's always some sort of silver lining, somewhere, somehow. Now to go play the game, or perhaps try watching Firefly for the first time since ever.
