The Brave Little Toaster? Or is it when Barbie quotes Locke on the consent of the governed?

The other screenwriter-y thing that confuses me is the King's Speech. It's nominated for original screenplay, even though the writer adapted it from his own play.
Maybe it's because it's his own work?
He first wrote a screenplay, re-wrote it as a stage play, and then the stage play was actually used for the film, without it ever being staged.
