It made me quit the series when it was on tv, and when a friend and I watched all the way through after it was all finished, we both felt that the first bit of season three was not good television. It was the beginning of our loss of faith in Jack and Kate as good guys. From then on, through the rest of the series, Jack and Kate were ridiculous idiots who only rarely rose to something better. But the rest of the series, from halfway through the third season to the end, was very good. The first season was also very good. The second was weaker but still fine I thought.
