He'll probably play a pretty moderate role. Japhy Send a noteboard - 22/03/2011 04:31:30 PM
I don't think Freeze adapts well enough to the screen without making it too over the top and he just doesn't seem to pose enough of a psychological threat to Batman. Falcone makes for a good villain because he represents what Batman is fighting for. Not just the immediate lives of the people of Gotham but fighting corruption so the future has a chance. While young Falcone might not be the most exciting, he is essential to the Gotham city Nolan has established.

I really hope they get Bane right.

...we simply defined the term differently, hence the misunderstanding. As soon as they have a name that's not their own and wear a special set of clothes or costume, they are a super villain for me. Like the Joker or Scarecrow. They don't have to shoot laser from their eyes or stuff. I just don't want a mobster with just a suit being the bad guy, but like Nate said, we'll most likely get a mix anyway, which is fine.

I still think the right people could make great films with Poison Ivy and Freeze. Just Schumacher couldn't.

Most of Batman's villains are just real people who are completely insane. Some are super-powered like poison ivy and mr. freeze and those blokes are kind of lame. My favourite character is obviously the Joker simply because of how insane he is. He's just some normal dude not enhanced in any way that can bring about the destruction of a city. Sure the super powered villains can bring about the destruction of a city but the believability of it would be out the door and wouldn't fit with Nolan's franchise.

They tried it with Batman & Robin. "Dudes with powers make cooler movies," is what they said but oh how they were wrong. Is Batman really a SUPER hero? I think he's just a hero. Yes he has a lot of gadgets to play around with but so do some of his villains but they aren't super villains. Super villains are guys like Braniac, Apokolips, Sinestro, and the guys the JLA fight. The Batman present in Nolan's film isn't on that level yet. Maybe eventually Batman becomes more than just a man with some gadgets when he joins up with the JLA but, in Nolan's films (and this is the Batman I prefer) he is a hero.

Plus, Batman's super villains can't affect him the way Ras al-Ghul, the Scarecrow, Joker, and Two-face have. Their relationship is one much deeper than just the mortal well-being of those around him.

"super" villains make for crappy movies. Real villains (Joker, Two-Face, RAG,) make good movies. - 22/03/2011 03:00:27 PM 457 Views
