I am sorry but the event that started the war was not the abduction of Lyanna Stark but instead the murder of Brandon Stark (heir to winterfell) and Richard Stark (lord of winterfell). It was this event that caused the feudal arrangement between the seven kingdoms to fall apart, it was this event that caused Jon Arryn to raise his bannerman.
Until the murder of Brandon and Richard Stark, the incident of Lyanna Stark could have been solved, it could have been fixed via arbitration. The Starks had a mere tort, a mere grievance, against the Targaryen, women are merely property in a feudal system (no matter how I find this disgusting it is true). When the mad king responded via murder, the mad king committed a crime against society, for in a feudal society there is a social contract where kings and lords have rights and responsibilities to one another.

If we're going to get all technical, then the actual event that started the war was Arryn refusing to hand over Ned and Robert.
The fact of the matter is the Rhaegar kidnapping of Lyanna (or mutual departure) is the event that led to the killings.
I think Sean Bean knows who Jon Snow's parents are
