Because of doing a current reread and the portrayal of last night episode, I realized something last night.
If anybody alive knows the origins of Jon Snow's parents (and the hypothesis is Rhaegar + Lyanna) then it would be the remaining members of the kingsguard who served under Aerys II, Ser Barristan Selmy and Jaime Lannister. Now if the Rhaegar + Lyanna is actually ever going to be brought up again in the books (in other words if Jon Snows parents actually mean anything.) It will be Ser Barristan Selmy telling Daenarys now that he has become her main councilor as well as leader of her Queensguard.
My question is this, does Jaime Lannister realize that Jon Snow is the son of Rhaegar and thus a Targaryen even if he is an illegitimate one. If so why hasn't Jaime done anything about it? I am coming up with these options, tell me if I am not think of any.
1) Jon Snow is claimed to be Ned's bastard and
A) Jaime didn't know that Lyanna was pregnant with Rhaegar's child (I find this unlikely)
B) Didn't think that Lyanna would have given birth
C) If she did give birth then the child soon died.
D) Didn't even think that Ned may have played the switcheroo and claimed Jon as his own child
2) Jaime Lannister does know about Jon's parents and
A) Didn't figure it out till after Ned took Jon to the north, and thus lacked good opportunities to do anything.
B) Jaime did figure it out before Ned took Jon to the north, but did nothing. Via doing nothing he acted very unLannisterly and very much unlike his father who purposefully killed every Targareyn he could get his hand on to seal the future success of a Baratheon and Lannister dynasty (any Targareyn could be a potential threat to the throne.) Furthermore killing a Targareyn would have made Robert very happy. Now while Jaime would eventually loathe Robert for his treatment of his sister, he hasn't come to loathe him yet, for during the first few months of Roberts reign and even into the first few months of Robert's marriage of Cercei, Robert has done very little to hurt his twin sister.
