So I decided, contrary to the advice of so many people, to watch Sucker Punch. Kaldric Send a noteboard - 06/08/2011 09:05:26 AM
After hearing how shallow a film it was, I figured I could just shut off my brain and watch an action flick. I actually enjoyed it, and was surprised at the film's depth. The three parallel story lines worked really well, each layer of fantasy linked to the tasks that had to be completed. The deep fantasy scenes were entertaining. I particularly liked the one with the horde of orcs and the dragon. It kind of reminded me of some D&D campaigns; plus, it's a dragon vs a WWII bomber--instant awesome. (-:,`

I was confused at the ending (what exactly did Blue expect to happen with Baby Doll, where did the Wise Man and boy soldier come from, etc.) however, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I'll definitely watch it again to look for clues to explain those.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how to rate it. If I can figure out whether the ending is actually coherent, I'll probably give it a 4/5. If not, then it will be 2.5 or 3/5.

FYI, I watched the Extended Cut, if that makes a difference.

Edit: After a second viewing, I rate this 4/5.
