He's a means justify the ends guy. Vivien Send a noteboard - 21/09/2011 04:22:02 PM
Possibly the reason why he is not liked is that he is a bit holier that thou. He tries to pretent that he is the 'good guy' out to do right but his methods show that he is just as twisted as a lot of the groups he is against.

He wants to protect the town against vampires. That sounds great. Yet he has no problem working with vampires to further his own goals. Before he died he 'interveened' to let Jenna know some of what was going on but was that because he wanted to look out for her both as a person and as his daughter's guardian or was it as leverage to get his ring back and get some of the players to do what he wanted?

Saying that I agree that a lot of people in that town have a moral compass that does not point due north. Damon is a cold blooded killer and even in season two he still goes off on the deep end but aparantly its okey to kill with no remorse simply because your having a bad day.

Bonny is all I hate vampires and what they do but she has no problem sucking her new witch friend dry of magic so that she can get enough mojo for some spells she wants to perform. There is no quesion of asking permission.

I could go on but about the only one I have sympathy for is the sheriff's daughter. She killed someone but given that she was just in the process of turning with no idea of what was happening to her I could give her a pass. After that she has tried to live her life and do the right thing while helping out a new warewolf and keep her vampire hating mom in the dark while protecting her at the same time.

First off, I really loved the activation of the Gilbert device in the first season. I thought it was extremely well planned and ridiculously effective, and it did get rid of most of the vampires in town. It was awesome. The way absolutely everyone who felt the effects was given a shot of vervain immediately, and only later exterminated? Systematic and brilliant.

Part of the reason why I liked the first season was the stuff with the council- that was interesting and awesome and I wanted to learn more. Unfortunately, the show has chosen to portray them as hapless fools instead.

Yes I agree about Bonnie- I was very disappointed when she mind raped that guy. Don't forget that she's complicit in Mason's torture and murder- she's the one who brings him in. I agree that Caroline is the most sympathetic character and then on the most recent episode she referred to a girl that was flirting with Tyles as "slutty". I get that it's because she's interested in Tyler, but that's not accceptable!
