Clone Wars is bringing him back.
So I guess he's either mechanical from the waste down... or he's got highly regenerative abilities.

...but I suppose that was non-canon anyway. I like Clone Wars, but they already took a bit of his mystery away by showing a whole army of guys looking like him last season.
