Yes, I quite agree. The improvement over Watson's unfortunate portrayal in recent times is something I am very grateful for.

But if I were to return to my original analogy, the Adam West Batman series was, to my knowledge, the only adaptation that really gave the whole "Batman and Robin" partnership a serious go. Other depictions have generally included him only as a side character, if at all.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
