But the show was never going to even be remotely like the books. That's why they changed the name. Werthead Send a noteboard - 25/09/2009 05:38:34 PM
Some of the stuff that happens in the books would get the show yanked off-air very quickly. Disney were never going to show a grown man kicking an eight-year-old girl in the face, and the fact that a lot of Goodkind fans said they wouldn't watch the show in that case was quite shocking.

Similarly, the books are fairly titillating about things like torture and almost-rape, and again the TV series couldn't go down that route without getting banned from the airwaves. There's also some jaw-dropping stupidity in the books which wouldn't fly on the airwaves either (fighting a battle in the snow with no clothes on, committing murder and being punished for it by being made to play for the prison football team, rallying some townsfolk behind you by building a giant statue of yourself etc).

Why people go into any TV or movie adaptation of a book expecting it to be a line-for-line remake I do not know. The two mediums are very different in plot and pacing. LORD OF THE RINGS is as close as you can feasibly get in an adaptation, and even that is very different from the books in several areas.
